I am a highly proficient designer, programmer and project co-ordinator with five years experience applying these skills to the medium of the Internet. Self-motivated both in thought and action I am able to work equally well within a team or on my own. I am keen to meet new challenges and have a wide variety of skills accumulated from both higher education and experience working on a range of computer-based projects. My early training in the architectural field has provided me with a high level of professionalism and planning which I apply to every new task I undertake.
Here is a brief list of my skill sets banded into groups.
Creation of logos, iconography, layout and aesthetic imagery using combinations of Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Fireworks and Flash, AutoCAD and Corel Graphics packages.
Creative use of an extensive knowledge of HTML combined with JavaScript to either build Web sites from scratch or amend and update Web pages created by others. Proficient in the use of Macromedia Dreamweaver and other proprietary Web authoring software.
Creation of dynamic content and database-driven Web sites using combinations of the PHP pre-processing language and SQL databases and the utilisation of server-based programs to automate many of the management tasks required to run behind the scenes to capture, store and collate user information and Web site usage statistics using a combination of PHP, shell scripting, Miva pre-processor and some Perl.
I have a full understanding of the workings of Web server software and Internet protocols and can set up new Web domains and email accounts on servers as well as monitoring log files for server performance and statistics.
I have drawn on my project management skills from my architectural background and applied these with great success to the development of highly complex server-based applications and Web sites. Most recently I have used these skills to develop a data-driven Website with e-commerce functionality and full content management system for The Good Web Guide (www.thegoodwebguide.co.uk)
I have experience in the installation of a variety of Linux distributions (Redhat, Mandrake and Suse) and can configure services and user accounts pertinent to all aspects of Internet use. I can also install, configure and trouble-shoot Microsoft Windows based operating systems and software and can set up networking between Linux and Microsoft systems and I have some limited experience working with Macintosh computers.
The technology I can use can generally be grouped into two things, code that I can write and software that I can use.
I have a comprehensive knowledge of HTML, XHTML, CSS (including CSSP), Javascript, DOM (DHTML), PHP, SQL (specialising in MySQL) and MIVA.
Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash, AutoCAD, Corel Graphics Packages, Microsoft Office and others...
Graphic design, PHP script and JavaScript development, Flash animations and presentations, server administration, network administration, security and disaster recovery systems.
